This session seeks to provide participants with the necessary information and resources to perpetuate the conversation on Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs). There are over 100 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across the country, each with a unique culture and atmosphere. Alumni of every generation embody the grandeur, elegance, distinction, and pride of their alma mater. This discussion panel will explore the "15 Things that Make HBCUs Unforgettable." Regardless of which HBCU you attend, there is a shared connection that binds us all. From those professors who go above and beyond, to standing in the financial aid line, or the real reason for attending a football game - this session will provide participants with a renewed and intimate understanding of HBCUs and the college decision-making process. With reference material, study groups, and prior knowledge and experiences, participants have the opportunity to deepen their understanding and appreciation of culture, history, innovations, relevant pop culture, education and more. Learning Objective:
- By participating in this activity, participants will be equipped with the skills to recognize and appreciate the accomplishments of African Americans in spite of oppressive and discriminatory history. Additionally, they will possess the necessary critical thinking capabilities to engage in conversations concerning the issues of social justice that affect individuals of African heritage. Furthermore, participants will be able to contribute meaningful input to discussions and provide extra information on the history of African Americans. Lastly, they will develop the traits necessary to enhance team communication, which will inspire a sense of excellence and achievement.
