Is An HBCU For Me?
A fantabulous opportunity for Parents, Scholars, and Community! Get ready for some unforgettable moments as we explore the history, relevancy, and diversity of HBCUs with proven data, videos, activities, and testimonials. Plus, don't miss our amazing HBCU Alumni Panel Discussion and all relevant info you need to know about any available HBCU Campus Visits, Post-Secondary Scholarships & Resources. Don't miss out!

Learning Objective:
  • This is a modified session that presents snippets of the three aforementioned sessions. 

HBCU Myths:
This session seeks to provide participants with the necessary information and resources to perpetuate the conversation on Historically Black Colleges & Universities (HBCUs). Open and honest dialogue will be used to dispel common misconceptions and empower participants. Through data, videos, activities and testimonials, participants will gain an understanding of the history, relevancy, and diversity of HBCUs. Additionally, participants will be acquainted with valuable resources to aid them in the undergraduate admissions process.

Learning Objective:
  • Explore the influence and impact of Historically Black Colleges and Universities through an engaging and informative dialogue to dispel common myths associated with HBCUs. Construct informed decisions and offer guiding resources based on facts and authentic data to support the planning of a college-bound student. Provide specific/targeted college and career readiness information and supports for a college-bound scholar and family. Analyze images and media and articulate how the visual images inform their historical understanding.
15 Unforgettable Moments at an HBCU:
There are over 100 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) across the country, each with a unique culture and atmosphere. Alumni of every generation embody the grandeur, elegance, distinction, and pride of their alma mater. This discussion panel will explore the "15 Things that Make HBCUs Unforgettable." Regardless of which HBCU you attend, there is a shared connection that binds us all. From those professors who go above and beyond, to standing in the financial aid line, or the real reason for attending a football game - this session will provide participants with a renewed and intimate understanding of HBCUs and the college decision-making process.

​Learning Objective:
  • This experience seeks to equip participants with the necessary skills and resources to foster an understanding of their emotions, create meaningful connections, and show empathy towards others. We will provide them with testimonies and successful college/career experiences from HBCU alumni to encourage and empower them. Moreover, a question and answer session will be included for participants to engage in a conversation with panelists and gain more insight into the topic, thereby facilitating the objectives of this experience.

Supporting the Parent of a College-Bound Scholar:
Yay, your child has been accepted to the school of their dreams! So, what now? The journey from high school to university can be an exciting and intimidating experience for both student and parent alike. Your next steps can be a challenge or a wonderful experience of discovery and growth. How you move forward will definitely affect your student's transition to independence. Parents, we've got you covered! This session will provide you with all the necessary tips and strategies to help you plan and prepare for college life.
Learning Objective:
  • This session seeks to equip parents with the resources and information necessary to guide college-bound students through the college and career decision-making processes. We will provide factual and reliable data to aid in college planning and support informed decisions. By doing so, we hope to empower parents to effectively assist their children on their journey to college.

Black History Jeopardy Game:
Discover and explore the rich and vibrant history of Black culture with The Black History Jeopardy game created by A. B.etter Way Productions! With questions about Black History & Culture, this fun and interactive game is a spin on the classic Jeopardy game show. Participants will be presented with answers and must provide the appropriate questions as the response. With reference material, study groups, and prior knowledge and experiences, participants have the opportunity to deepen their understanding and appreciation of culture, history, innovations, relevant pop culture, education and more. Join us now for an engaging and informative experience!
Learning Objective:
  • ​​​By participating in this activity, participants will be equipped with the skills to recognize and appreciate the accomplishments of African Americans in spite of oppressive and discriminatory history. Additionally, they will possess the necessary critical thinking capabilities to engage in conversations concerning the issues of social justice that affect individuals of African heritage. Furthermore, participants will be able to contribute meaningful input to discussions and provide extra information on the history of African Americans. Lastly, they will develop the traits necessary to enhance team communication, which will inspire a sense of excellence and achievement.
